Reactor technology overview and global count
FBR stands for Fast Breeder Reactor. Runs on fast neutrons without a moderator and can produce more fissile material than it consumes. Usually sodium-cooled. Only a small number have ever operated commercially, though several countries continue development. In the WhereNuc dataset there are 17 recorded FBR units across 9 countries, of which 3 are operational and 4 under construction. Their combined net operating capacity is about 1,400 MW. The earliest recorded FBR unit entered commercial operation in 1962, the most recent in 2016.
